Swimming may not be good for your weight loss! Yes, there are a few problems with swimming for weight loss. First studies have shown that due to the buoyancy swimming does not burn as much fat as other forms of exercise, however the biggest problem is in how people do it. In order for your swimming to be beneficial you must get breathless and stay breathless throughout your swim and build up to be able to do it continuously for about 50 minutes! Unfortunately the nature of most peoples swimming ability is that they do not swim fast enough for this and they take too many breaks, sometimes stopping after every length!
Swimming is a great from of exercise and superb for the joints and relaxation. However the toning benefits are limited and the weight loss benefits will be very limited unless you get and stay breathless and are able to continue for the length of time required.
